So for day 28 I engaged in a Kundalini sequence I found using My Yoga Online website. It was pretty good. There were only four Kriyas & it was almost 30 minutes long, but still extremely calming. Okay, this is where I admit that I totally passed out during Shavasana & completely missed the last bit of chanting & have no idea how long I was “enjoying,” the last pose until Roux barked when Leif got home from school.
Today I again found a video on My Yoga Online. I’m telling you people, this is a really cool website! This once was to boost immunity which is never a bad idea! I almost finished it, but E woke up & I went up to help her calm down & go back to sleep & ended up napping with her for about an hour. Sometimes cuddling takes priority over Yoga. Okay almost every time it takes priority, especially when you have a girly who is too busy for your loves most of the time!
Leif’s parents are coming to town on Sunday & staying for a bit so now sure if I will be practicing while they are here as to make the most of our time together. Soooo it might get a bit quiet over here until midweek!!
Ahhhh. . .that is what my body is saying right now after some Kundalini Yoga. I found a link to a free month of My Yoga Online through a Yogi I follow on Facebook. Her page is called Kino Yoga. She’s pretty damn intense as far as how advanced she is, but what an incredible inspiration! On my Facebook Page I have shared her link to subscribe to My Yoga Online free for a month. I need to explore the website a bit, but honestly if I like it might I subscribe for a couple of months just to be able to have quality Yoga videos & a wonderful community at my fingertips. My favorite part about the videos is that you can search by style, teacher, duration, or level. Youtube is a wonderful source for free Yoga videos but sometimes I get a bit frustrated not knowing much about the instructor or that I can’t search very well by duration as time is my biggest obstacle. So, check it out if you’re looking for something new for the month!
The video I followed along with today as I had mentioned was a Kundalini Yoga practice. As with the last time I did Kundalini my body had that wonderful tingly/vibrating energized sensation. A bit different from you get in a really good cardio workout- it’s full body & mind sensation. Completely awesome! I am not able to embed this video into my blog for some reason, but I did find it on the instructor’s website here so you can check it out! The instructor for this video was Gloria Latham. I quickly scanned her website & she seems pretty swell! Plus she has a rockin’ page of music she listens to!
Well, I best get on with my day! Hope you’re having a wonderful Tuesday!
Heyoh! That’s kind of how E sounds when she says “hello.” It’s quite adorable. She can say sooo many words now. I keep track of the signs & words she learns by writing them on our sliding glass door with one of those Crayola window markers. It’s cool to see what words & signs she chooses to learn & use.
Yoga today was a bit of a challenge for me. I went through the first few minutes of 3 videos before I settled on one to follow along with til the end. Not sure what my dealio was. I wanted to do Yin Yoga, but I just couldn’t find an instructor with the vibe I was looking for. So, I went for day 22 of the 30 day yoga challenge with Erin Motz. It had been awhile since I had followed along with her. It was nice & that day’s video ended up pretty much being Yin Yoga. WIN!
Stretching was my main goal today & that is what Yin does I feel. This wasn’t quite as meditative as a typical Yin practice, but it did stretch out my muscles & when I did the spinal twists with my legs crossed my back popped really loudly both ways, so that felt extremely amazing. I have always had a weak/sore lower back as long as I can remember.
Now I am off to clean up my mess of a house before E wakes!
I was being a whiner & protesting life & bad weather. E & I had a couple of lazy days & I got some more organizing [napping] done. Sometimes you just have to take a break & be a bum! Needless to say the sunshine, birdies, & beautiful weather should be here right now as I’m ready to hook up E’s trailer to my bike & goooooo!! BUT we live in the frozen tundra of MT so we’ll just have to wait for June to realize said dreams.
Today Leif joined me for Yoga! I found a new mat at T.J. Maxx.It is far from the glorious $90.00 mat I was eying online, but honestly I don’t think having an expensive mat would enhance my practice all that much. Someone agree with me please! I just needed to replace my mat that was leaving chunks everywhere whenever I practiced! Someday when I can justify that expense I’ll go for it! We followed along with a very energizing [hard as hell] routine with lots of arm & core focus. It was 30ish minutes long & by the time Shavasana came around we both stayed there until the laptop fell into a sleep. Okay & so did Leif & I.
I am off to make some yogurt & clean a bit before E wakes up! Here is the video for today & hope you all had a good weekend!
The electricity in our little neighborhood was shut off today as to replace a transformer. . .is that what they’re called?! So, I tried to rush home to get E fed before that happened as it was supposed to be shut off at 12:30. Well, she fell asleep on the ride home, so I stopped to get gas & just put her to sleep. That meant I was on my own for Yoga.
I was a bit intimidated to initiate my practice without instruction as I don’t feel I’m quite equipped or refreshed in the world or yoga to do that, but I gave it a go anyway & before I knew it I was 30 minutes in & decided to end in the ever classic shavasana which was wildly relaxing & almost meditative as my focus & breathe throughout today’s practice were so on! It was wonderful & rejuvenating to achieve those feelings all on my own. Of course I’ll still probably follow along with videos for the duration of the 21 days I have left, but at least I’m getting somewhere!
How long did it take for you before you were able to just go with the flow of yoga & trust your instincts of choosing the right asanas for your day’s practice?
E & I attended ‘Sensational Babies’ as we try to each Wednesday. She has been a bit shy lately during this outing which is unusual for her. Typically when it is bubble time she runs over to them, but today she stayed by my side & cuddled. This morning during breakfast when Daddy was juggling clementines she was giggling hysterically & even more-so when he’d drop one in the act. Last night we went to ‘Wasbai,’ for our anniversary & E could not get over how cool the hibachi grill was. She’d whip her head in whichever direction a flame or some excitement was going on & her eyes got huge whenever our guy was performing tricks. It is so fun to watch the world through her eyes.
Onward to day 23 of my yoga challenge. I have to laugh as challenge is not really a fitting term to use as it seems harsh & inhibiting whereas that is not at all how I feel towards my practice. Maybe exploration is a better word? I guess when I started this it was just a way to start out the year as my January was consumed by angst & sadness so I felt I needed a cleanse of sorts. Obviously I haven’t set any “rules,” for this challenge/exploration. That is a good thing I suppose as I have come back to the mat each day at leisure & ready to learn more about the practice of yoga. It has also led to me discovering more about different forms of yoga. I would love to hear about what type of yoga you practice & how you stumbled up on it & why you prefer it.
Today I followed along with a Yang & Yin video. I felt it was mostly a Yin practice as it was slow & steady although I did feel the Yang of the practice as well. Yin to me could be described as a calming experience. Yeah, that is a lot of types of yoga, but this was fueled by your breath, poses were held for a longer period of time, you weren’t moving very quickly as to be gentle & considerate of your body so as to align yourself gracefully. The Yang was a bit more steadfast & energizing but as how Yin&Yang are supposed to work together this was a wonderful balance of opposing styles of movement. I highly suggest Yin or even Yang & Yin if you’re looking for a restorative routine.
Bhakti was the path I meandered down for a spell today. This style of Yoga is more of a lifestyle & it is the type of Yoga most commonly practiced in India. Below is one meaning of Bhakti defined as it has a few meaning dependent upon what the person is referring to, but it does have a connection back to God:
“. . .a spiritual discipline meant to bring one to a state of pure love of God.”
Although I am in no way religious this was a great practice & there was a bit of chanting at the beginning that was uplifting. The instructor I followed along with today gave a brief overview of her take on Bhakti & the routine itself was a calming flow of movement.
Seeing as I probably will not devote myself to a practice that is centered around God not much time will be spent following this style of Yoga. It is always interesting to read about the various types of Yoga I am encountering. For me Yoga is the spiritual part of my life, but in a way that I am not worshiping or trying to encounter any one God as that does not fit with my current belief system. But I practice Yoga for more than one reason than spirituality alone.
It feels as though I am forever trying to purge our house of the junk we no longer use or want. I need to remember that I have a toddler so accomplishing said task in one day would be a damn miracle. Today was cold so E & I stuck close to the house after dropping Leif off at work. We rearranged her play area as I finally finished her lace tipi. Then, while she napped I tackled some of the basement by rearranging & pulling all the junk from every nook & cranny. Our basement is part TV room, part office, my “yoga studio,” & my craft/sewing space. Yeahhhh, a lot of stuff in one room. I feel happy with the rearrangement as there is a better flow & more floor space. Now wish me luck on weeding through the items!
Tonight Leif & I did a partner yoga video. This video was intended for Valentine’s Day, but obviously you could follow along with it on any day of the year. There were some nice basic poses presented & it was nice to practice with my man. I was a bit distracted as yoga is usually my time to zone out & not think about anything but my breath, body, & spirit all moving together. This was fun & I would like to try another video with him as the ladies in this one were quite giggly! It was cute but made it hard to know what the heck we were supposed to be doing.
Check this out with a friend, partner, or even your older kid as it is easy & only 23 minutes long!
Today’s yoga video I followed along with was entitled: Hatha Yoga for Balance & Harmony (35 minute full class). This was a calming routine that really did make me feel balanced & in harmony with my body. The instructor seemed friendly, calm, & patient which made me feel that way towards my practice & self. Totally needed those feelings & sensations as E & I had just got done shopping the Mall for fabrics for her Easter basket & dress. I am not a fan of the Mall as there is not good energy there at all & everyone is so rushed, pushy, & a bit rude. But after this routine I found my Zen & got on with my day.
I’ve always enjoyed practicing Hatha as it is a good mix of wonderful flowing movement & it is somewhat meditative too. Definitely check out this video!
Also, I shared a couple of articles that were good reads on my Facebook Page, so check it out & make sure to follow the page as I do regularly share & post some good stuff!
I am not a huge fan of brass anything. So, I bought some spray paint. These lamps were purchased through a Facebook yard sale group. I love shopping on the groups on Facebook. If people shipped things more easily I would probably browse yard sale groups from other cities! =]
The lamps cost me $7.00 total, the spray paint was a whopping 97 cents. I found the idea from a picture on Pinterest that led to a broken link & I was far too lazy to try to find the original link. I wanted to paint them something other than white, but figured that was the most practical as I’ll more than likely change our bed set someday & I don’t want them to clash. At least I think I’m going to put these in the bedroom as I just put my bedside lamp in E’s room. I do still need to clean up the crystal a bit as it isn’t too shiny, but this was my progress today. Any suggestions for lampshades? I have a few ideas, thank you again Pinterest, but am not set on one idea. Anywho. . .before & after thank you to my assistant E for helping to showcase them!
