. . .day 8 of Sacred Power of the Goddess. Today was the day of Lord Shiva & flow is the theme.
“Shiva is known as the destroyer, the lord of transformation and the patron god of Yoga.” (taken from the Sacred Power of the Goddess program from My Yoga Online)
This was an awesome routine. My body felt as though it was working even though this was a nice rhythmic flow of movement. It had wonderful repetition which I enjoy sometimes because I am able to just flow & not have to look up at the screen to double check I just understood what pose we are doing as they announce them in Sanskrit from time to time & let’s face it- I am no at all fluent. The “dance,” of Shiva poses that the instructor incorporated were super & at first challenging for my balance, but after I connected my breath to the movements it was fun. The instructor had such a soothing voice & I will be bookmarking her name as she was inspiring. I didn’t check to see what the duration of this video was before I started & it flew by being as it was 43 minutes long.
Happy St. Paddy’s Day! =] Typically Leif & I would go for a hike but it has been snowing since around 9ish this morning so I doubt we’ll take E out in this icky weather. Last night we hooked the bike trailer up for the first time & tried it out. E rode behind Leif’s bike & I followed on mine as we cruised around for a bit, stopped at a park, & headed back on home. She loved it as I was hoping she would so that we can utilize it this summer & not drive the van so much.
Today in the Sacred Power of the Goddess the theme is radiate! This practice was focused on the Goddess Lakshmi. She represents abundance & beauty. This practice has wonderful twists as to correlate with a story about Lakshmi. For the first time in awhile I felt a wonderful stretch in my legs during downward dog, this was after the first set of twists in this video & after working the right side of my body the instructor mentioned that you might feel your right leg is longer than your left & by golly I did. Usually I rush my twists a bit too much but I was mindful during this practice to take them slow & it paid off. Once again I fell asleep during Shavasana for a few minutes.
There was also a reading to go along with today as there are most days, but this one is entitled “”A Reminder: You Have the Body of a Goddess.” It was an incredible read. I highly suggest it to you Goddesses!
Day 36 for me & day 6 of the Sacred Power of the Goddess from My Yoga Online. Today’s theme was “connect.” There were two videos one telling about the goddesses: Lakshmi, Kali, and Saraswati. That was an extremely interesting talk & I enjoyed learning. Leif reminded me that Kali was referenced in Indiana Jones. Ha!
The video was challenging. Leif joined my for a bit, but like me was getting discouraged with the Lizard poses. It took awhile for my brain to connect how she was doing the variations. That is one downside about videos- you don’t have the instructor right there to guide you through your ignorance so you get to ride the struggle bus until you keeping trying. Eventually it made sense what she was doing & I continued with the video & benefited from the variations of the Lizard pose. I really did like this video & found it refreshing that there was no downward dog or plank. I think someone even mentioned that in the comments. Those two poses are wonderful, but it was really great to try something different & come in to Namaskarasana as that I feel replaced those two poses.

Today’s practice guide was centered around Ganesha the Gatekeeper. Ya know, the elephant head boy! I fully enjoyed this video as the instructor gave a little information about Ganesha at the beginning of it so I didn’t even have to go hunting for who the heck this dude was! The routine was awesome! It was work but also gentle & flowing. This was the first male instructor I actually enjoyed following along with. I know that probably sounds extremely sexist of me & I don’t mean it to be that way at all. He was calm & confident so it was a joy to practice with him. I just typically seem to gravitate towards videos that are instructed by women. Do you have a preference?
Seeing as the video had so much information I really won’t go too in depth with any additional blah blah so you can check it out!
Gorgeous day out today! Well, to me it is. E & I filled up our bird feeders & I raked our yard a bit so she can play in it without me freaking out that she might pick up a dog turd or something. She’ll probably still find one & try to eat it as that is Murphy’s Law of being a Toddler.
Back to Sacred Power of the Goddess. Today is day 4 & empower is our goal of the day with Goddess Kali. “Kali is the goddess of empowerment and change,” as is the description that went along with the day’s video. The web link I found & attached above for Goddess Kali is interesting & one of the most descriptive I think. Plus it has lots of pictures!
The video for today was fun! It was a dance with a bit of yoga & although I felt extremely silly doing it, I just let go towards the middle & had fun with it! Sometimes you have to not take yourself so seriously & roar like a lioness! =]
Before I went on ‘spring break,’ I had signed up to participate in the “Sacred Power of the Goddess,” practice guide presented by My Yoga Online. I kind of had forgotten about it as company was in town & yesterday I practiced with Leif. So, today I jumped in on day 3 of 11 & it totally rocked. I need to find the time to do days 1 & 2 as I’m sure they are equally as awesome.
The practice today was focused on the Goddess Durga. Here’s a little blip of info on Durga:
“Durga is the mother of the universe and the consort of Shiva. In the Hindu pantheon of deities, Durga is the beautiful warrior consort of Shiva and the slayer of demons.” (as taken from the My Yoga Online website from the “Sacred Power of the Goddess,” series)
In other words, Durga is a badass! This was a wonderfully empowering practice. I feel stronger & a tad more feisty than usual. Day 3 was labeled “Purify,” & I suppose I feel that as well. There were great balancing poses where you can challenge your body like the warrior you are, but this practice also allowed you the rest that all warriors work for. I highly suggest this video & for you to check out this series! I’m excited for day 4!
Back from my little ‘spring break!’ It was wonderful to have Leif’s parents in town for a visit. E had a blast & was giving away her kisses to them within the first half hour they were here. Sheeesh! It took us over a year for her to give us kisses without teasing! E is 14 months old today. WHAT?! *yelled in the voice of an exasperated Minion of Gru* Seriously?! Kids. Grandma & Grandpa were awesome & agreed to watch E one night so as to let Leif & I have our first date since she was born! Whooooooo who! We gorged ourselves on Sushi at Seven Sushisake thanks to my work family & just hung out & talked. Incredible date & it was nice to reconnect with my love.
Yesterday was day 32 of 45. Leif joined me for Yoga as he is still on Spring Break from classes. We followed along with this practice from My Yoga Online. It was great except for a couple of poses which we just watched & wished we could do. I love doing Yoga with him every once in awhile. No grand reason why, I just kinda like him =]
E & I had quite the day in the realm of tantrums. Both of us. HA! But seriously how can my sweet little girl cause such a fuss for no reason? I keep telling myself this is just karma as my Mom swears that I was the Queen of tantrums. This too shall pass. . .right?! Any advice on this phase? I’ve read quite a bit & have tried a few things, but am open to suggestions in helping her through tantrums & ways to keep my cool.
Sooooo by the time she settled in for a nap I needed some majorl down time. I found a guided meditation & a yoga routine. Both on My Yoga Online. This guided meditation was wonderful & really brought me some peace & I made it through the rest of the day. The yoga routine entitled “All For You Mamas Yoga,” was great as well & both videos were by the same gal- her name is Mara Branscombe.
Click here for the “Be Luminous,” guided meditation.
Click here for the “All For You Mamas,” yoga routine. For some reason the video is only showing up as a three minute ‘sample,’ video after I searched for it this evening, so not sure why. When I followed along with it earlier it was almost a 30 minute routine.
Anyway! Have a wonderful rest of the weekend & I will be back soon as we are going to enjoy our company!
E & I went to the library today & after we had some fun in the kid’s room we headed over to the DVD/CD section. I quickly combed through the workout DVDs in search of some yoga ones. There wasn’t much for yoga besides a TON of prenatal yoga DVDs, so ladies of Bozeman who are preggers check it out! Instead I found Goddess Workout with Dolphina- Introduction to Bellydance. So, I snagged it for something fun for Friday. I’m still enjoying Yoga, but just wanted to mix it up.
I remember when I was living with my Dad & he had cable there was this amazingly awesome Bellydance show called Shimmy (click for a snippet or here for the website) that would be on the FitTV channel. So, I would DVR the episodes & check them out when I was home alone as that just isn’t an activity when you want to do when there’s a house full of people & you are an ungraceful buffoon. They would break it down step by step & the location was always cool & don’t even get me started on the costumes. This DVD was kind of like that & it was a wonderful workout & made me feel like a Goddess for the 50 minute running time. It is rare in my everyday life where I feel beautiful & womanly as I don’t really dress up & do regular girl stuff as I’m busy with E or just life in general.
Belly dance is also wonderful for awakening your Kundalini & Chakras. The more I read about Chakras & everything related to it the more fascinated I become & want to learn more. Do you have any articles, videos, & such that you can recommend to me? Leave a comment!
I do believe that this is most of the workout & I found it on Youtube, just check on this playlist & ignore “Bear in the Big Blue House,” unless you really want to watch it. I won’t judge! =]
So for day 28 I engaged in a Kundalini sequence I found using My Yoga Online website. It was pretty good. There were only four Kriyas & it was almost 30 minutes long, but still extremely calming. Okay, this is where I admit that I totally passed out during Shavasana & completely missed the last bit of chanting & have no idea how long I was “enjoying,” the last pose until Roux barked when Leif got home from school.
Today I again found a video on My Yoga Online. I’m telling you people, this is a really cool website! This once was to boost immunity which is never a bad idea! I almost finished it, but E woke up & I went up to help her calm down & go back to sleep & ended up napping with her for about an hour. Sometimes cuddling takes priority over Yoga. Okay almost every time it takes priority, especially when you have a girly who is too busy for your loves most of the time!
Leif’s parents are coming to town on Sunday & staying for a bit so now sure if I will be practicing while they are here as to make the most of our time together. Soooo it might get a bit quiet over here until midweek!!
